Importing feeds from foreign feed lists (v3)
The feed market is becoming increasingly multinational and a whole lot of foreign feed suppliers distributes their products to the UK. This may cause problems when translating energy and protein values if you do not know the difference between the units used in the different countries.
For example, if you have a French feed list, the energy values are in UFC (French feed units for horses, net energy) and not in MJ digestible energy as is the standard in the UK. Protein is given as MADC (digestible crude protein) and not as Crude protein.
When importing a foreign feed list to a UK version of PC-Horse, the program translates the foreign energy and protein values automatically into the standard UK units, MJ digestible energy and Crude protein (CP).
The import of a foreign feed list (files with extension .pcf) is done in the same way as the import of a UK feed list.
Once you have imported the foreign feed list, you can copy in the usual way the entire list's contents, or just the feeds you are interested in, to your respective stable feed lists.
At each import PC-Horse translates energy and protein values into the UK units.
You can read more about the different energy units here in our monthly article from April 2014.
1. The (foreign) imported feed list can be opened and closed. It shows, and retain, then the feed´s analytical values and units from the original feed list.
2. If you copy feeds from the foreign list to another feed list (new feed list or stable feed list) it automatically recalculate all values into domestic units.
